Threefold Vision
LIFE-LONG LEARNING
That you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord… as you grow in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9-10)
Catholics are called to follow Jesus as his disciples. A disciple is a learner. The riches of Scripture and Tradition are full enough that one can never stop learning. There is always more!
ONGOING TRANSFORMATION
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)
Deeper knowledge leads into deeper intimacy with the Trinity which leads into deeper transformation. As we are transformed by grace we learn to live and grow in everyday holiness.
EQUIPPING FOR SERVICE
To equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love. (Ephesians 4: 12, 16)
All are called and all are gifted to serve. We are called to serve the church and to be transformative witnesses in the world. Through training we learn to use the gifts we have been given toward greater fruitfulness.
Three Pedagogical Principles
CONTENT
We form students in the breadth and depth of the fullness of Catholic truth found in Scripture and Tradition guided by the magisterium, leading to deeper communion with Father, Son and Spirit and a more active sharing in the mission of the Church.
COMMUNITY
We form online and onsite faith-sharing communities for collaborative learning and growth as members of the body of Christ. There are lots of online resources for passive learning. Our courses engage students in teaching and learning from one another.
CONVERSION
We form hearts and heads through intellectual and spiritual formation leading toward ongoing conversion, transformation in Christ and growth in missionary discipleship. Our courses are designed to foster that deeper intimacy with God that changes lives.
Three Levels of Courses
ENCOUNTER
Spiritual enrichment courses open to a diocesan-wide audience. Easy non-credit, non-graded courses that create desire to learn more. Spiritual growth opportunities for Advent, Lent, & special diocesan wide events (i.e. year of St Joseph).
GROW
Non-credit but more challenging courses for those seeking to grow deeper in their faith. These may include courses on Scripture, Theology, Prayer, Spirituality and practical courses for living the faith through the stages of life.
EQUIP
Training for various ministries in the diocese – catechists, teachers, deacons, and many others. In collaboration with other departments of the Diocese, the Institute will develop a wide range of theological and practical training courses to equip the faithful of the diocese for service. Also includes our partnership with Franciscan University of Steubenville to offer MA in Catechetics or Theology at 1/3 off tuition as well as the Franciscan at Home program for certification.
